A 400 level student of Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma Osatohamwen Elefe has gone into hiding following an attempt made on his life by some dare devil assassins and cultists during an invasion of his home in Okpella
Osatohamwen reportedly escaped death by the whiskers when the cultists armed with guns invaded their residence, but his cousin Besheri Dirisu was however not as lucky as the felons gave him fatal injuries which led to his death at the hospital.
Osatohamwen's ordeal sources said began when he had serious financial difficulties in paying his school fees, rent and others, a situation that reportedly almost made him to drop out of school untill he met a friend, Osas Azenabor who later lend him some money at some incredible interest rate.
This was happening at a period Osatohamwen's mother was said to have been sick too and hospitalized, a situation that demanded money from him, hence his resort to borrowing at incredible interest rate and other conditionalities from a friend of his named Osas Azenabor.
Trouble it was learnt, started when Osatohamwen was unable to return the money at the agreed time.
It was gathered that the conditions attached was that Osatohamwen had to pay the money back with a 10% interest at an agreed time and that failure to pay at the time will result in the doubling of the interest rate to 20% with each additional month.
However, on the expiration of the date for the loan repayment, Osatohamwen expectedly could not meet up with the payment, resulting in the lender putting forward other conditions which included forcing Osatohamwen to get initiated into the Aiye cult and also for him to compulsorily accept to be a drug currier in the lender's "company", or be ready to pay up the loan immediately.
Turned between the devil and the deep blue sea, Osatohamwen was said to have reluctantly agreed to join the Aiye cult and to run the shady errands to defray his debt.
Unable to cope with the challenges of the illicit drug deals and membership of the Aiye secrete cult, Osatohamwenan, it was learnt decided to free himself by reporting the illicit drug trade to the police, believing that the law would protect him.
This according to multiple sources escalated Osatohamwen's ordeal as some police officers suspected to be cultists and also friendly with the money lender, Osas Azenabor and his gang upon knowing Osatohamwen mission at the police station reported to Osas Azenabor.
It was gathered further that Osatohamwen was branded a traitor, betrayer, debtor and unworthy to live by Osas Azenabor and his allies who allegedly felt Osatohamwen was going to expose their secrets to the police high commands prompting their resolve to eliminate him.
Matter however came to a head on January 16, 2021 when some suspected Aiye cultists allegedly sent by Osas Azenabor invaded Osatohamwen's house with the intent to kill him.
Osatohamwen it was gathered narrowly escaped the attack by the dreaded Aiye members who reportedly trailed him to his residence. His cousin, Besheri Dirisu was killed during the bloody attack just as the assailants were said to have vowed to eliminate Osatohamwen whenever they set their eyes on him.
The assailant numbering about 10 according to eyewitnesses apparently piqued by the escape of Osatohanmwen, also set his house ablaze and threatened to return to finish him.
Contacted, the police Public Relations Officer in Edo, DSP Abiodun Osifo, while confirming the report said no arrest has been made in connection with the murder of Besheri Dirisu.
Osatohamwen's ordeal is not an isolated case as incidences of communal clashes occasioned by boundary disputes, cult wars made worse by the selfish attitude of modern day youths, family inheritance tussles, from money lending issues to land grabbing, have become rife.
Hardly a day passes without a report of one violence or the other as the people find it difficult to sleep with their two eyes closed.
