Niger Delta Peace Ambassador Award has been described as a way to celebrate and bring influential African creators and serial investors who passionately drive Africa towards greatness to limelight.
This assertion was made by the President/National Convener, Edo Legacy Foundation Inc., Niger Delta Peace Ambassador Initiative and Bravins Magazine International, Okpiaoba Amb. Engr. Pedro Omo Aghahowa during an award ceremony and his birthday celebration in Benin City.
He also said that the award is an event organized specifically meant to celebrate outstanding global accomplishments of Africans within the continent and in the Diaspora, in areas of politics, business, entertainment, philanthropy, arts, culture, social innovation, science and technology.
Continuing, Engr Pedro said Africa's heritage is not just a collection of artifacts or historical sites, but a living, breathing testament of richness and diversity of our continent. He further said that it is the stories of our ancestors, the wisdom of our elders and the aspiration of our youths, the rhythm of our music, the taste of our cuisine and the colours of our art.
Pedro however, said that despite its significance, African's heritage is under threat from "globalization, conflicts, neglect, inter- ethnic disputes and indifference which sadly erode our cultural identity".
According to him, "we must invest in education and skills training to equip our people for the jobs of the future. We must promote innovations and entrepreneurship to unleash the creative potentials of our youths. We must strengthen our institutions of governance and up hold the rule of law to create an environment conducive for investment and economic growth".
In his remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Chief Ambassador Clement Okougbo acknowledged that the Convener may have been passing through some challenges associated with promotion of our heritage over the years.
He praised him for his dogged pursuit and for being able to continue in carrying on with the huge task.
" For the awardees, you were deem fit for this award, so, keep doing all the good things you have been doing in the society".
Chief Akougbo used the occasion to congratulate Engr Pedro on his birthday and described him as someone who has earned respect all over the world in the course of what he is doing in the society.
Highlights of the event were the conferment of awards on deserving recipients and the cutting of the birthday cake by the celebrant.
