Samson Koyonda, Class Of '86 BHOSA Donate Science Laboratory To Alma-mater

The class of 1986 of Baptist High School Old Students Association (BHOSA), World-wide has donated  Ultral  Modern Technology  Laboratory to its Alma-mater.

The commissioning  of the project  which attracted old students from across the globe and other dignitaries in the state was done today at the school's premises  in Benin City.

In his remarks , the President of the association,  Innocent Ekuase said the association's philosophy is to generally assist in the  infrastructural development of the school. He added that the association interacts with the Principal of the school in order to know how best it can assist the school and ensure that the excellence which was in practice during their time is sustained in the school.

He described the Technology Laboratory as one of the best in the country. "We have alternative power for 24 hours  and not  necessarily relying on public power supply. We also have there soft ware for training. We have acquired a subscription for  five years on the Internet".

On his part, the "donor"? of the project,  Samson Koyonda expressed his happiness over the completion of the project in a record 45 days, adding that if the Laboratory is properly put into use and produce  scientists, it will be better for the school.

He described education as a selfless service and advised the students of the school to know how to give back to their Alma-mater by the time they joined them as old students.

"The Laboratory is for you to make yourselves scientists. We will come back in five years time for a bigger structure".

The special guest of honour and Vice Chancellor, Prof.  Lilian Salami, represented by Prof. Raphael Edokpia thanked the donor of the facility, saying that it takes a good heart to be charitable.

She said what is lacking in schools these days are laboratories, adding that she is passionate about it because education is key. "What is lacking today is character. These days we carry degrees but lack character. Make use of it well and maintain it. It can make you reach the whole world".

A member of 1986 set and the Head of Service, Edo State, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa promised a five-year scholarship for the best graduating science student and N250,000 for the best  graduating History student of the school .

Also, the Commissioner of Digital Economy  Edo State ,  Engr. Ogbeide Ifaluyi Isibor, disclosed that Edo State is the most digitized State in  Nigeria. He promised the school of a close collaboration on training of students.

The Principal of the School, Deaconess  (Mrs) Margret Enonuya had earlier thanked the old students, especially the donor, Samson Koyonda for giving back to their Alma-mata.

"As a school we are overwhelmed by the donation of this Lab which will enhance the teaching of ICT. As we all know, the world has gone global largely through the impact of ICT. It has opened up new possibilities in  Medicine, Telemedicine, Engineering, Art and other fields of human endeavor.

"It is therefore, a welcome gesture highly appreciated by the school in receiving this Technology Laboratory today ".
