Edo ALGON calls For Immediate Release Of Esan West LG Chairman, Aigbogun

The Edo State chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, strongly condemned the assault on the Esan West Local Government chairman, Hon. Collins Aigbogun, described it as blatant act of violence that is clearly a violation of democratic principles and the rule of law.

They made this condemnation today at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat, Press Center in Benin City.

The association call on the relevant security agencies, including the Attorney General, Commissioner of Police Edo State, AIG Zone 5 and all concerned security authorities, to take immediate action in  in investigating and bringing the perpetuators of the heinous act to  justice.

They said it disheartening to note that instead of engaging in a peaceful campaign  and Allege that the All Progressives Congress, APC,  appears to be resorting to violence and intimidation tactics, including unwarranted attacks on PDP members.

"ALGON stands firm in its commitment to promoting peace, democracy and the rule of law in Edo State. We call on all stakeholders, political parties and security agencies to work together to safeguard the rights and safety of all citizens during this crucial period"

They urge the authorities to prioritize the investigation of the assault and hold the culprits  accountable for their actions . 

In his reaction, the  Commissioner of Police Edo State command, CP Nemi Iwo said Hon Collins Aigbogun was actually invited by the command and he reported himself to the police CID, adding  that they now discovered that there was a criminal charges against him before now.

He further said that based on this the FIB came from Abuja and requested that he should be transferred to Abuja for further investigation.

CP Iwo said once the investigation is completed and he is found not wanting he will be released.
