Madam Blacky Denies being responsible for high food prices, says She Remains Edo Market Leader

The President of the Edo State Market women Association, Madam Blacky Oghiame,  popularly known as Iyeki has debunked allegations from one Edna Omoregbe, of  the Association of Commodity Traders Women and Men who recently moved a vote of no confidence on her.

She described the group as non-existent in Edo State market. "Our association is duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC. They are not part of us. They have no right to pass a vote of no confidence on me and my leadership".

She also said that their association is not political, adding that they support any government in power. She described the group as hired people who have no bearing in markets in Edo State. She further said that the group were out to give the public a wrong notion about her and the market association.

On the proliferation of unions  in the market, she said as the leader in the market she has not given any body any power to form such group to be increasing prices of commodities in the market. She said as the leader she and her executives have made efforts to remove such groups in the market in order to bring in sanity.

Madam Blacky called on the government at all levels to intervene in the food crisis by subsidizing the prices of food  commodities in the market in order to alleviate the suffering of the masses. Or sep up a price control board which will be in charge of regulating the prices of commodities in the market.

On her part, the Secretary of the Edo State Market Women, Association Maureen Okojie said as for  Lucky Orukpe who said he is the President of the Traders Welfare  who has been telling the public that Madam Blacky was responsible for the increment of food prices in the market wasn't telling the truth. She said it is as a result of high cost of transportation of goods to the market, adding that the traders do sell their goods as they bought with slight profit margin 

She also said that Edo State Market  leaders are not responsible for the risen cost of goods. She added that it cut across Nigeria. She said their association does not recognize Edo Traders Welfare as they are not part of the market women in the state. "They are not affiliated to us. We do not deal with people outside our association".

Also speaking, one of the traders in Oliha Market, Titilayo Omobayo said those rising against Iyeki are liers. "They are there to cause commotion and chaos. If they are really market men and women let them come out and swear an oath".
