Baldwin Bazuaye, sensitized Egor council's officials ahead Sports fiestas

The Executive Director, Edo State Sports Commission Hon. Baldwin Bazuaye has taken the commission's grassroots sports development campaign to Egor Local Government Council of the State.

 The exercise availed Hon Baldwin Bazuaye who was accompanied on the tour by the Zonal Coordinator Mrs Doris Omoragbo to enlighten the Council officials who were on hand to receive them.

 Bazyaye who represents Edo South in the board of the commission said the campaign was part of their preparation ahead of the local and State Sports festival due in the State in April this year.

Bazyaye told the Secretary, Egor Local Government Council, Hon. Zion O. Evbuomwan and other EXCO members who received him on behalf of the Local Government Chairman, Hon (Dr.) Eguakun Ighodaro Kelvin that the sports commission was banking on the support and collaboration of LGAs within his jurisdiction.

Such collaboration Bazuaye said was most needed now in the aspect of sports development in their localities ahead of Local Governments Sports Festival coming up before April, 2025 and Edo State Sports Festival also due to hold in April, 2025.

He said the commission plans to use the two local sports fiestas to effectively prepare ahead of the forthcoming National Sports Festival coming up in May, 2025. He further appealed to Egor LG to collaborate and support the Sports Commission during the grassroots sports competitions.

He stated that 36 different sporting activities would have the athletes compete for laurels in the sports festivals. He appreciated the local government officials for the warm reception accorded them during the visit.

Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Zion O. Evbuomwan who spoke on behalf of the Chairman appreciated the Edo State Sports Commission for the idea of bringing youths together in sports competitions.

He assured of the local government's preparedness to collaborate and participate actively in all scheduled competitions with a view to helping the commission realise its dreams of returning the state to its glorious days in sports, just as he assured that their level of support will be given as soon as the council receives details on area of expected support. 

In his brief remarks, the Vice chairman of the Council  Hon. Preston Eghe Amayo requested that the commission expands its sporting activities to accommodate  more youths in the local government for inclusivity. 

It was resolved that selection of star winners at both festivals would be made by the commission at the local and State levels who will in  turn represent Edo State at the National Sports Festival coming later in the year in Enugu. 

Present during the visit were the Vice Chairman, Hon. Preston Eghe Amayo; Speaker (Leader) Hon. Nosa Izevbuwa, Majority Leader, Hon. Stella Ogida; HOLGA, Mrs. Oboh Evbu Amenaghawon, Head, Social Department, Mrs. Doris Iyobosa Oronsaye ; and Chief Press Secretary, Mr. George Enofe.
