The senator representing Edo South Senatorial District, Senator Neda Imasuen, has organized a two day training workshop for 500 youths in skills acquisitions to boost the State's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The training which Centres on shoe making and leather bags, was meant for residents of the Edo South, With Theme: "Unlocking Leathering Potentials for Sustainable Livelihoods"
Addressing the participants, in Benin on Friday, Senator Imasuen said that there is a lot of money in shoe and bag making, adding that they should take the training seriously and be economically self-sufficient.
"The shoes that I'm wearing was made in Nigeria. It was made by somebody from Enugu state. As a matter of fact, apart from this hat that I am not sure of where it comes from, the rest of the things I am wearing here are made in Nigeria.
"And so, Nigerians are making a lot of money from these crafts, and I would want you to be active participants in the industry.
"When I go abroad and I wear my shoes, my friends always want to take them from me. I will always tell them that these shoes were not made in the US or Italy.
"They are made in Nigeria and they always become amazed that such quality shoes could be produced in Nigeria. So I'm going to plead with you to take this training very seriously because you might never know where it is going to lead you.
"This might just put you over the edge and make you a multi millionaire. It is just for you to be focused. It is just for you to set your mind at it. It is just for you to be resolute about it.
"And at the end of the day, you will be the ultimate beneficiary. So as we start this programme, I am not going to speak too long because it is not a speech making event. It's a practical event of shoe making", Imasuen said.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Uyi Obazee, thanked Senator Imasuen for the opportunity the training is offering them to become their own bosses, noting that at the end of the exercise, he would be able to take care of his family.
