As Edo Central Senatorial bye-election is gathering momentum in the state, various aspirants in the three major political parties have started going round for consultations for their Senatorial Seat aspirations.
At times like this there are some factors that may count in some of the political parties in getting a suitable candidate that will fly the ticket of those parties.
In the case of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which have been facing some political challenges may have to look into the area of loyalty, competent and commitment to the party, where the former Esan North East Local Government chairman, now a Frontline aspirant of the Edo Central Senatorial seat, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon. John Yakubu may likely be favoured to fly the ticket of the party.
It is no longer news that many of the aggrieved members of the party, including those who do not like being in opposition have moved to other political parties since the crisis started. This action of defection by these members may have been affecting the party in the past elections. But Yakubu remained in the party and redouble his efforts in building the party till date.
While others were moving away from the party, some members decided to stay, but not for the interest of the party (PDP), instead, to continue to work against the party's victory in any election that comes up till date.
But Yakubu's loyalty to PDP is to a fault. He has remained in the party since 1998 and has continue to work for the party with his time and resources.
Apart from being a loyal and formidable party member, Hon. Yakubu made PDP proud with his excellent performance during his tenure as local government chairman. Where he touched the lives of his people at the grassroots with all kinds of projects like good health care, education, financial support to the needy, good roads, agriculture and many others.
Since Yakubu served as local government chairman he has been a household name in the politics of Edo State which has earned him so much respect amongst his counterparts in politics. His contributions to the party since inception is unparalleled. So, Yakubu has remained a great asset to the party that deserves the support of the members of PDP in his Senatorial ambition.
The idea to deliver in governance and the willingness to serve the people is in his blood. Therefore, if given the opportunity by PDP to serve Edo people in the coming Edo Central bye-election , the party would have succeeded in given the Esan nation and Edo people in general the best amongst the best politicians we have in the state.
Therefore, for equity and justice it is only fair that PDP leadership in the state give John Yakubu first right of refusal in the Senatorial ticket, as that could be the best way to reward someone who has served the party with sincerity and almost loyalty.
