Political contestations are functions of the popular candidates taking the office of choice through popular participation. And since politics is all about who gets what, when and how, it becomes compelling for aspirants to any political office to sell themselves to the electorate who have the mandate to Elect them.
In this game, there are certainly those who go for the offices based on what they believe they can offer either by way of their individual experience in public administration, governance or community service, others go into the contest just to register their names in the chart of contenders for the office(s) at stake just for the fun of it.
In the forthcoming Edo Central Senatorial by-election, a good number of aspirants threw their hats in the ring. While some never went beyond announcing their names in some social media platforms, others have gone to the extent of marketing themselves before the voters in the senatorial zone.
Hon. john Yakubu, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP aspirant for the Senatorial seat falls within the later group as espounsed above. The coast becomes clearer by each passing day as the aspiration of the foremost contender for the Edo Central Senatorial seat, and former local government council chairman going by the amount of support he receives from credible political actors in the area, has gone places.
Counting on election winning strategies such as maintaining constant touches with supporters and admirers, especially those at the grassroots level, Hon Yakubu has put himself on the winning track for both the PDP primary and the main election.
Our findings have revealed that, the political tactician is about the only aspirant working very hard to win both the primary and bye-election. His consultations with all strata of the political divides show his level of acceptance by the people of the zone same way his aspiration is gaining momentum steadily.
His approach to this forthcoming bye-election has been described by many as such imbued with tact, zeal and proven records of performance in previous positions held. These have placed him far ahead of others and he has continued to gain more ground ahead of the polls.
Available facts indicate that John Yakubu is also leading in the area of issue based campaign as he is fantastically good in articulating issues of public interest such that would meet the collective aspirations of the entire Edo Central when elected senator.
His party, the PDP sees him as someone they can trust if given the ticket, coupled with his popularity which they believe will give the party an edge over other political parties.
I can also assure you here that he has since commenced the mobilization of people at the grassroots for the election day having used similar tactics in his past elections. He is more determined to have a clean sweep in this contest.
It is a known fact that John Yakubu is well grounded in political activism and the people are very much in tune with him. It is the major reason everyone would like to pay attention and listen to him when he starts campaigning. They all equally know that whatever he tells them or promises them, he will not fail to actualize.
During election period like this many politicians are used to their usual way of promising to do even those things they know are not achievable. But they see it as normal in politics. As for John Yakubu his case in this area of electioneering engagement is quite different. He already knows the needs of the people having lived with them for decades. He will only soliciit their support and trust him to roll out for them all they would need to better their lives.
I just hope that everyone would think out of the box and get prepared to work for this man of hope whose mission in this Senatorial project is to bring Esan Nation to limelight once again. John Yakubu is a man of few words but action packed in the area of performance.
Please let all of us continue to believe in him, work for him with our sincere hearts and trust him to deliver when given the opportunity to serve the people as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
